Students and educators deserve transparently funded classrooms, not accounting tricks

OTTAWA – NDP Shadow Minister of Education MPP Chandra Pasma (Ottawa West – Nepean) released the following statement, calling out Ford’s Minister of Education for performing accounting tricks instead of transparently funding classrooms:

“This announcement shows exactly what’s wrong with the Ford government’s approach to education. They stand in front of cameras and claim they are putting new money into classrooms, but now we learn nearly half of it is being pulled from already stretched school budgets.

“That is not a real investment, and it certainly is not new money given by Ford and his Minister of Education. Gutting the Education system is not enough for them, now they’re resorting to accounting tricks to try and mislead parents, when students deserve to have their classes be supported and properly funded.

“Teachers should never have to buy basic classroom supplies out of pocket in the first place, and principals should not be forced to juggle shrinking budgets to make up the difference. Ontario schools need stable, transparent funding that actually keeps up with rising costs and student needs.”
